Home brewing has long been a vibrant hobby in the state of Alabama. Unfortunately, until recently everyone participating in the hobby was considered a felon under Alabama law. While the law was seldom enforced, sporadic instances of enforcement made all the state’s home brewers nervous. After several years of grassroots effort, a ragtag group of home brewers calling themselves Right To Brew finally succeeded in getting a bill through the Alabama legislature in May of 2013. To celebrate this achievement and all brewing culture in Alabama, the Alabama Brew Off was organized as the first legal home brewing competition in Alabama, now in its second year.
Alabama Brew Off is sponsored by Birmingham Budweiser, an independent, family-owned beer wholesaler offering great craft beer to the citizens of North Alabama. Birmingham Budweiser’s portfolio includes great local breweries like Cahaba Brewing, Beer Engineers, Back Forty Beer Company, Fairhope Brewing, Rocket Republic, Brew Stooges, and Black Warrior Brewing as well as national craft beer favorites like Great Divide, Avery Brewing, Green Flash, Ballast Point, Southern Tier, and many others.
